Nestled deep in the Dorset countryside, this little company has wowed food critics and customers alike with their range of cakes. Using impeccably sourced ingredients, this small hands-on team create gorgeous tasting treats. Over half the range has won Gold at the prestigious National Great Taste Awards. Their first recipe book, ‘Honeybuns Gluten-free Baking’, has had rave reviews and they are currently working on an ‘all day’ recipe book, due to be published in 2017.

Emma Goss-Custard started Honeybuns in 1998 when she was a student in Oxford. Trying to find a way to make some extra money, she used recipes handed down from her mother and grandmother and set about making delicious cakes to supply to local businesses and café’s. All the cakes were lovingly made in the kitchen at her digs and then delivered by Emma on an old post office bicycle. The company relocated to Naish Farm in Dorset in 2001 to a listed farm with outbuildings, which have been sympathetically adapted from their dairy days to now house the bakery. Honeybuns has grown organically and sustainably to fit it’s surroundings, and the team is now 26 strong, employing local people.

Honeybuns’ make innovative and award-winning cakes and cookies. The Classic Range is for when an indulgent treat is called for, and includes well established favourites such as brownies, flapjacks, shortbreads and cookies. Using alternatives to flour, such as polenta and ground nuts, makes them suitable across a range of dietary needs, and all products are gorgeously gluten free. Some are dairy free too.

Their New Generation range offers gluten free, dairy free, vegan, and refined white sugar free options.

Coeliac customers are completely thrilled to be able to enjoy otherwise forbidden goodies such as cakes, brownies and flapjacks - and with such sublime taste!

The company is also dedicated to leaving as light a footprint as possible upon its surroundings. The 5 acres surrounding the bakery is now managed as a nature reserve. The cake board inserts use card from a sustainable source and are printed with vegetable based inks. Thanks to a new composting system and increased recycling, the bakery and production areas have almost zero waste to landfill. Other activities include looking after a selection of rescue animals, and glamping weekends.

'New Generation' cakes - offer more free from options

Honeybuns, the trusted gluten free bakery, have been hard at work developing a delicious new range of cakes that offers gluten free, dairy free, vegan and refined white sugar free options. This 'New Generation' range all taste delicious and are still cakes rather than health bars.

The Fruity Nut Bar, launched April 2016, is a tempting combination of cranberries, cashew nuts, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds & date paste. Not only is it gluten free but it's dairy free too, and very low in refined sugar. Available in narrow 56g individual slices and 950kg traybakes. Shelf life after defrost is 21 days.

The Squillionaire, launched May 2016, is a date version of Honeybuns' top selling Chocolate Caramel Shortbread. With an innovative and delicious date sweetened polenta base, a date caramel centre and a rich dark chocolate topping, the only refined sugar present is a small amount in the chocolate topping. Honeybuns aim is to eventually switch the chocolate to a dairy free and refined sugar free chocolate. It is gluten free, vegan (it may contain some traces of milk) and, of course, super tasty too. Available in narrow 64g individual slices and 1kg traybakes. Shelf life after defrost is 21 days.

The newest additions to the range are the Oaty Apricot Bar and Oaty Coconut Bar, launched January 2017.

The Oaty Apricot Bar is a moist slow baked flapjack made with an apricot puree and date syrup, and topped with toasted pumpkin seeds. The Oaty Coconut Bar is slow baked with delicious virgin coconut oil, date syrup and oats, with a rich intense flavour of coconut and caramel. Both cakes are made with an innovative use of date syrup instead of golden syrup, and light muscavado sugar which lends a caramel flavour. Gluten free, dairy free and vegan. Shelf life: 16 days. Available in narrow 56g individual slices and 950g traybakes.

“We’ve enjoyed the challenge of creating new recipes which avoid refined sugar,” says Honeybuns founder Emma Goss-Custard. “As ever, our primary focus is on making truly delicious artisan treats. The lack of refined sugar is an added bonus.”

Honeybuns aim to grow this range of cakes, with more treats in the pipeline launching in April. Honeybuns is delighted that Waitrose anf John Lewis will be stocking various New Generation cakes in their cafes from May 2016.

The individual slices come in Honeybuns new packaging, which has been re-branded with a fresh clean look but still very much identifiable as Honeybuns.

Honeybuns, the dedicated gluten free bakery, is launching a further two cakes in their ‘New Generation’ range. The delicious and decadent Oaty Coconut Bar and Oaty Apricot Bar will be available from January 2017 and will join the recently launched Squillionaire and Fruity Nut Bar.

This ‘New Generation’ of cakes addresses the increasing demand for a treat that is gluten free and low in refined sugar. Where possible the cakes are dairy free and vegan too. Honeybuns primary focus is on making truly delicious and decadent artisan treats that taste like cake, not health bars.

Oaty Coconut Bar is a moist, slow baked flapjack made with delicious virgin coconut oil and has a rich intense flavour of coconut and caramel. Oaty Apricot Bar is a moist, slow baked flapjack made with a fresh apricot puree and topped with toasted pumpkin seeds. Both are made with an innovative use of date syrup instead of golden syrup, and light muscavado sugar which lends a caramel flavour. In addition to being gluten free, both cakes are dairy free and vegan and have been registered with the Vegan Society. With a rich taste despite being dairy free, they taste as decadent as their buttery cousins in the Honeybuns Classic Range of cakes.

These ‘New Generation’ cakes come in a new narrow individually wrapped bar and traybake formats.

As Honeybuns founder and owner Emma Goss-Custard says, ”We have lots of exciting and innovative recipe ideas that we are testing in our New Product Development kitchen, and plans are to grow the New Generation range even more in the next couple of years.”

The New Generation range is the first to feature Honeybuns lovely new packaging, which has been re-branded with a fresh clean look but is still very much identifiable as Honeybuns. The new packaging is slowly being rolled out across the rest of the Honeybuns cakes in the Classic Range.
