PRESS RELEASE Issued: 18th March 2017
LOCAL MARMALADE MAKER IS TOASTING SUCCESS WITH AWARD WINNING MARMALADE & GOLDEN BOOST FOR BUSINESS

WINNING MARMALADE MAKERS MORE INVENTIVE THAN EVER

Iain Mackenzie & Kate Thornhill of Perthshire Preserves are toasting business success thanks to winning prestigious food awards at this year’s 12th Anniversary Marmalade Awards Celebrations at Dalemain. They really are a world champion marmalade maker & are now able to proudly carry the award winning roundel on their jars.

Perthshire Preserves from Main Street in Callander have just scooped 2 Silver awards in the 12th World’s Original Marmalade Awards. Perthshire Preserves winning Silver Medals are amongst the most prestigious accolades in the marmalade world. The medals were won for Lemon Marmalade and their unique BrewDog Marmal-ale which both scored high marks for appearance, colour, consistency, aroma and flavour.

The Awards took place at Dalemain in Cumbria on 18th & 19th March 2017 overseen by the awards’ organisers, which encourages people to try, buy or make marmalade.

Iain & Kate said they were delighted to win the award: “This is a wonderful award for us in more ways than one! We’ve got our preserve pans at the ready to make lots more jars so please come and try it at any of the Farmers Markets we attend throughout Scotland., we are rolling out our products in the rest of the UK and Europe

Record entries were received for the 12th Anniversary of this prestigious award with over 2,600 jars of marmalade from as far afield as Australia, India, Denmark, Japan, USA and New Zealand were sent, by both artisan producers and amateur makers, to the organisers of the quirkily British awards for judging by a prestigious panel of marmalade experts who were once again amazed by the standard of the marmalades entered.

Awards and Festival organiser Jane Hasell-McCosh said: “The standard of the competition this year has been outstanding and congratulations to Perthshire Preserves on their award and I am delighted that the awards continues to grow with more and more entries each year. When I started this competition 12 years ago my aim was to preserve the art of marmalade making and raise the quality of marmalade worldwide and I think in the last 12 years with the help of a growing army of small artisan producers we have saved and celebrated one of our great British traditions.” I truly believe we have a ‘Renaissance in Marmalade Making’ and would like to congratulate and thank each and every marmalade maker for making this possible.

The World’s Original Marmalade Awards & Festival boasts the sponsorship backing of some of the most famous names in marmalade – Paddington, Mackays, and Fortnum & Mason. The event’s 2017 charity beneficiaries are Hospice at Home, Action Medical Research and Marie Curie in Scotland. To date those golden pots of marmalade have raised over £150,000 for charity with the aim of raising £200,000!

The Marmalade Awards - What are they all about?
These quirky awards were founded in 2006 by Jane Hasell-McCosh with the initial idea of preserving, growing and widening one of the most British of customs – making marmalade. They have gone on to generate a following far beyond Jane’s wildest expectations and have humour and a life of their own, inspiring people from all over the world to get involved.
The Awards are centred on Dalemain Mansion; a Georgian stately home lived in by the same family for over 300 years, which also happens to hold a very rich archive of Marmalade recipes.
The Awards & Festival are sponsored by Mackays, Fortnum & Mason, Paddington Bear, Mrs Bridges Marmalade, wine merchants Laithwaite’s, Patteson’s Glass our approved suppliers of marmalade jars, Hudson’s media all UK owned businesses. Festival Supporters include Country Life, Barclays, Brindista, Epic Events, Lycetts, Virgin Rail, Aga, Sharrow Bay, Ullswater Steamers & Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors.
To date the Dalemain Marmalade Awards & Festival have raised over £150,000 for Hospice at Home.  This year the money raised from amateur entry fees will go to Hospice at Home, Action Medical Research and Marie Curie Scotland. All the proceeds from the amateur entry fees go direct to these charities.
