Nourishing Britain: Driving Meaningful Change in Food Policy to Improve Public Health
Dr. Dolly van Tulleken, a leading expert on public health, will deliver the opening keynote at IFE, discussing how meaningful change in food policy can create lasting health benefits, improve nutrition, and reduce the strain on our healthcare system. A visiting researcher at Cambridge University's MRC Epidemiology Unit, Dr. van Tulleken co-authored the Nourishing Britain report for supported by Nesta and Impact on Urban Health, which examined government obesity and food-related health policy in England through interviews with 20 prime ministers, health secretaries and other senior politicians. In her address, Dr. van Tulleken will draw upon these interviews and her other research to explain why government obesity policy has failed over the last 30 years to improve population health and what can be done to drive towards a healthier, more sustainable and equitable food system. This session will explore the benefits of a unified, ambitious and strategic approach to food policy, and will be followed by Q&A from the floor.
