FETAPDO is the distinctive title of the EU program "Information
provision and promotion measures on Feta PDO in the United Kingdom and S.
Arabia". Feta PDO (Protected Designation of Origin is the Greek cheese
traditionally made from sheep or goat's milk (up to 30%), which contributes to
its unique taste and buttery texture. It is matured in wooden barrels or tin
cans for at least 2 months. This process enhances its flavor and helps preserve
it. Kalavryta Coop is the Agricultural Dairy Cooperative of Kalavrita, the
pride of the Peloponnese, and generally of Greece, that was founded in
December 1963, producing since 1974 the traditional barrel feta, known as
“Feta PDO”. Kalavryta Coop is focused on promoting and supporting sustainable
dairy farming and cheese production. This included working with local farmers,
promoting and marketing their products, including Feta PDO, and promoting
environmental sustainability and animal welfare. The Cooperative’s mission also
involves reducing the environmental impact of its operations, providing fair
and equitable working conditions for employees, and supporting local
communities. The goal is to promote the region of Kalavrita as a center of
excellence for dairy production and to increase the popularity and demand of
Feta PDO, as a premium, high – quality product with a unique cultural heritage,
as well as a symbol of excellence and authenticity.
