Semele Liqueur
Stand: N1610
Semele – Saperavi Wine based Liqueurs with Cherry and Blackberry aromas.
In 2023, Twin sisters Eliso and Salome Uzunashvili, Members of LLC "Uzunashvili’s Mukuzani Wine Cellar" introduced “Semele,” a line of unique liqueurs crafted from Saperavi wine.
“Semele” was inspired by a liqueur our grandmother made years ago. We found the symbol of reviving the old with new energies in Greek mythology in the form of the goddess Semele. Semele fell head over heels in love with Zeus, and because of this love she ended up with Hades in the underworld. If not for her son Dionysus, she would have to spend her whole life there. Dionysus took Semele out of the underworld, placed her on Mount Olympus and made her a goddess.
This is how the hope was born that what is based on love will definitely find a way to the light. That's what "Semele" is for us - a fighter for true love, lively, free and courageous. It is created for all those people who are looking for the power of "rebirth" in themselves, or simply believe in love and miracles...
These exquisite liqueurs are made from Saperavi wine with fruit aromas of Cherry and Blackberry. This variety is rich in tannins, which are beneficial for health. The vibrant color is derived from young Saperavi grapes. At the same time, the alcoholic nose comes from the added grape spirit, which also preserves the beneficial tannins. The fruity aroma comes from natural extracts that are carefully formulated. Its abundant taste, with a fine and sweet texture, makes it an enjoyable drink, whether on its own or used in a wide variety of cocktails. These liqueurs pair well with fruit salads, chocolate cakes, pancakes, or any desserts you choose.
The Semele collection currently features two varieties:
• Saperavi & Cherry
• Saperavi & Blackberry
The Uzunashvili Winemaking Heritage
The Uzunashvili family’s winemaking tradition dates back to around 1829, when their ancestors served as winemakers at the estates of Prince Alexander Chavchavadze in Tsinandali and Mukuzani, located in the renowned Alazani Valley.
Their wines gained recognition for their quality, and in the early 19th century Emperor Nicholas II awarded Mikha Uzunashvili the Grand Imperial Medallion and a diploma for “Noble and Outstanding Winemaking.”
Although the family lost their titles and official roles during the Soviet era, their dedication to winemaking continued through generations.
Today
Today, Uzunashvili Mukuzani Wine Cellar is led by Vazha Uzunashvili, a winemaker with more than 35 years of experience. The winery is located in the Mukuzani microzone of Kakheti, Georgia’s premier wine region. All grapes are carefully tended and harvested by hand to ensure quality and authentic expression of terroir. The cellar features nine traditional qvevris and a tasting space where visitors can experience the rich culture of Georgian wine. Among their offerings, the “Semele” liqueurs, crafted from Saperavi wine with natural fruit extracts, showcase the family’s dedication to innovation while honoring Georgian winemaking traditions.
