Tunisian Olive Oil .. Singularity in the plural

Multi-millennial, olive growing in Tunisia is above all a story of rooting. It crystallizes the past in the present... like an almost perpetual present, the olive tree that has been offered to us, trunk in soil,  fruit in heaven!

As one of the main olive oil producing countries, Tunisia has a singularity linked to the nature of olive cultivation. Indeed, the country ranks first in the world in terms of areas devoted to organic olive groves cultivation, with more than 160,000 hectares of certified organic olive trees out of more than 1.6 million hectares cultivated.

It should be recalled that in Tunisia, an increasing number of exporting producers hold internationally recognized certifications. Among the most important, we can mention Eco Cert, USDA Organic, FSSC22000, Iso 22000, CCPB, Kosher, IFS, FDA, Fair Trade, FSMA, Non GMO Project, Tunac, Halal, TN-BIO, BRC certification Food Safety...

Beyond origin, olive cultivation in Tunisia is at a pivotal moment heralding a promising future for conditioning companies. Having reached a great maturity crystallized through the export of Tunisian olive oil brands to more than 60 countries in 2025, the current challenges are related to strengthening their positioning through elaborate Branding strategies.

The olive oil sector occupies a strategic position in the Tunisian economy. A Fund for the Promotion of Packaged Olive Oil (FOPROHOC) was created in 2006. It is managed by the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy as well as PACKTEC, and it provides companies, consortia or professional associations with financial and strategic support to assist them in their product export.

To better address the singularity of Tunisian olive oil, it should be emphasized that this attribute has a plural form; there is no Typicity except that of an indigenous variety notably Chetoui, queen of international competitions. The companies represented at this edition of the IFE (pavilion 4610) offer several varieties as well as blends adapted to UK market needs.

During the last decade, Tunisian companies have turned to the participation in international competitions to realize the enthusiasm of many tasters with eclectic profiles and, thus, the collection of medals has become the cornerstone on which rests the strategy of operators aiming at an elitist positioning. Many gold medals have been won at LONDON IOOC, BIOL, MARIO SOLINAS, NYIOOC, OLIVE JAPAN, AVPA, DUBAI OOC...
