Peter Noy

Director, Food Systems Institute, University of Nottingham

The Food Systems Institute (FSI) is on a mission is to deliver and communicate world-leading research on 1) sustainable food systems, 2) equitable and inclusive food systems, and 3) nutrition and health. Its network connects over 200 academics at the University of Nottingham through interdisciplinary translational centres, focused on Sustainable Agricultural Systems, Future Proteins, Food Innovation, Food Policy and Foresight, the largest collection of academics working on Food Policy outputs in the UK.

Pete holds a Doctorate in Immunology from the University of Birmingham and an Masters degree in Biochemistry and Biological Chemistry from the University of Nottingham. Whilst in Birmingham he gained over 10 years medical research experience as a molecular biologist working on cardiovascular and metabolic disease. He has since engaged with interdisciplinary research approaches across the food system through his work at the University of Nottingham.

Pete Noy was previously the Associate Director of Research for the Future Food Beacon (2018-2023) and the Food Systems Institute (2023-2024) working with academic colleagues across the University of Nottingham to support the development and delivery of interdisciplinary research initiatives. Over the last 18 months he has lead the Food Innovation Centre, which has engaged with over 200 businesses to address business challenges for product and process innovation, and supported regional development of food and drink businesses. He has extensive experience working at the boundaries between academia, industry, government and other actors in the food system and working with stakeholders across the globe.
